From humble beginnings and originally two cottages, Bourton Croft Cottage is built of local Cotswold stone under a traditional Cotswold stone roof and now boasts the ultimate in amenity and comfort. No expense has been spared in creating a wonderful place to stay, just 100 feet from the river that is the very 'water' in Bourton-on-the-water.
Positioned in the middle of the Oxford (33 miles), Bath (51 miles), Stratford-upon-Avon (25 miles) triangle these historical towns are each circa one hour's drive away; there is much to explore by car, but so much more by foot or cycle. Typical Cotswold towns are Burford (12 miles), Chipping Norton (13 miles), Cirencester (16 miles), Moreton-in-Marsh (8 miles) and Stow-on-the-Wold (4 miles). The Cotswold town of Chipping Campden (14 miles) is notable for being the home of the Arts and Crafts movement, founded by William Morris at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. William Morris lived, occasionally, in Broadway Tower (13 miles), near Broadway (15 miles) a folly now in a country park.
Bourton Croft Cottage is situated in the very heart of the Cotswolds which designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1966. Its an area in south central England and contains the Cotswolds Hills, a range of rolling hills which rise from the meadows of the upper Thames to an escarpment, known as the Cotswold Edge, above the Severn Valley and Evesham Vale. The area is defined by the bedrock of Jurassic limestone which creates a type of grassland habitat rare in the UK, and which is quarried for the golden coloured Cotswold stone of which Bourton Croft Cottage is built.
